    Chef Adrianne’s (A Review)

For South Floridians, the mention of gourmet food will rarely bring to mind the Kendall area.  Yet, tucked away out west in Kendall is Chef Adrianne’s Vineyard Restaurant and Wine Bar.  It features upscale food with a “wine country” vibe.  The restaurant is attached to a tiny strip mall, and is easy to miss if you’re not looking.  In fact, we drove right past it on our way there. M.E.A.T. Eatery and Taproom (A Review)

Burgers are, in many ways, the perfect food.  I mean, you can get all of the food groups in one bite.  That practically makes them health food, right!?  Yes?  Of course.  But, as easy as it is to justify stuffing a burger in my face, finding a stellar burger is not always easy.  Here at The Broke Baker, “good” is not good enough.  Leave the “good” burgers to the amateurs.  We’re looking for the kind of burgers that you talk about for days afterwards.  We want burgers that make us dislocate our jaws to bite into while we try to keep the juices from dripping down our arms.

That, among other things, was the reason I decided to take a drive to Boca Raton and try M.E.A.T. Eatery and Taproom.  Another reason was the pictures of their truffled lobster burger that happened to be floating around social media for a while.  So, off I went.

    Prime 112 (A Review)

In case you don’t already know, I hate the beach.  And, not just the beach, but Miami Beach as a whole is just a cesspool of pretense and superficiality.  I hate the traffic.  I hate the parking.  I hate the parade of Botox and silicone.  Plus, I look terrible in a swimsuit.

That aside, every now and then, a restaurant garners enough buzz to get me off my lazy butt and off to a Miami Beach adventure.  Prime 112 was one such instance.  When I asked people what kind of food they serve, I was told “a little bit of everything.”  That worried me, because most restaurants that try to dabble in different types of cuisine usually don’t excel at any of them.  Still, with an open mind (and someone else’s wallet), I made my way over there. Yardbird Southern Table and Bar (A Review)

During my search for spots in South Florida that are serious about fried chicken, I came across Yardbird.  Then, I almost completely forgot about them, until I went to Swine and had a great experience there.  Since both are owned and operated by 50 Eggs, Inc., it was a no-brainer that I needed to try them out.  Their biggest claim to fame, of course, has been their fried chicken.  Did they deliver?  H’mm, let’s see… (more…)

Swine Southern Table and Bar (A Review)

Early last year, a coworker of mine mentioned a new BBQ restaurant that opened in Coral Gables that I just HAD to try.  I didn’t pay him a whole lot of mind, until said restaurant was present at Burgerliscious 2013 and wowed me with their burger.  Since then, it has been on my to-do list to pay a visit to Swine Southern Table and Bar.

Swine is the latest addition to the 50 Eggs, Inc. family, which consists of Khong River House (which I have been to) and Yardbird Southern Table and Bar (which I have not).  With them 50 Eggs, Inc. has proven that lowbrow comfort food can be elevated to fine dining tastes.  And, since Swine was voted Best Restaurant in Coral Gables by the Miami New Times, it was time to go check it out. Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink (A Review)

Ever since this article came out a few years back citing the Black Angus Burger at Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink as one of the Top 25 Burgers in the country, I just HAD to check them out.  Unfortunately, such a venture is not particularly cheap, even during the more cost-effective lunch hours.  Michael’s Genuine has earned quite the reputation in South Florida since their debut in 2007.  Helmed by star chef Michael Schwartz, this restaurant is dedicated to producing quality food with local, seasonal ingredients.  As such, the menu changes daily.

    Biscayne Tavern (A Review)

Miami Spice once again brought me out of my cave and into the world of fine dining.  Biscayne Tavern is a swanky little restaurant and bar located inside the B2 Miami Downtown.  The sign located on the outside of the restaurant makes it easy to spot, and there is quite a bit of metered parking across the way.  They have been generating a lot of buzz with the large variety and quality of the food on their Miami Spice menu.  With that in mind, I brought some friends along. Michy’s All-You-Can-Eat Fried Chicken (A Review)

Not long ago, I asked around as to where to get the best fried chicken in South Florida.  Aside from the standard chains (Popeye’s, Church’s), my friends didn’t have a whole lot of insight.  So, I turned to the Internet.  This is how I first heard of Michy’s fried chicken.  Michy’s, an upscale restaurant located in the North Miami area, offers a bottomless fried chicken dinner for $39 per person on Wednesday nights during the summer months.  Many locals seemed to swear undying allegiance to their fried chicken, so I figured it HAS to be good.  Fortunately for me, I found out about them during the summer, which meant that it was the perfect opportunity to give them a shot. Flip Burger Bar (A Review)

In case it wasn’t already obvious, I LOVE burgers.  Well, I love food in general, but burgers are one of several food items that I absolutely could never do without.  So, when a friend pointed out that USA Today named a local burger joint one of the Top 25 Burgers in the country, I jumped at the chance to try a new burger place. Shula Burger (A Review)

To most South Floridians old enough to remember, Don Shula is a football legend.  To those of us in the slightly younger generation, Don Shula is the name plastered on a chain of high-end steakhouses scattered about South Florida.  It was only a matter of time before the franchise branched out into burgers.  After all, if you know your steaks, then burgers should be a cakewalk.  Thus, Shula Burger was born.
