  • Burger Battle 2015

    Burger Battle 2015

If you’ve been following the blog for a while, then you know that Burger Battle is one of my top most anticipated food events every year.  And, since we know that I hate driving, the fact that I drive up to Ft. Lauderdale every year for this should say it all.  You’ve got all of these popular Broward restaurants competing to see who makes the best burger, and you get to TASTE EVERY SINGLE ONE!  It’s like being a kid in a candy store, only a grown woman instead of a kid, and burgers instead of candy.  Okay, so that analogy failed, but it’s a great event!

Which burgers rose to the top of Burger Battle 2015, and which ones floundered?  Let’s find out! (more…)

  • Burgie Awards 2015

    Burgie Awards 2015

Renown South Florida blogger, Burger Beast, brought the Burgie Awards back for a sixth year.  The Burger Awards, which awarded 15 prizes for the best in South Florida comfort food, as free and open to the public.  It was a great opportunity to catch a lot of the food trucks that I hadn’t gotten a chance to try in my travels.

For a full list of this year’s winners, visit Burger Beast’s page. (more…)

  • Festival of Chocolate 2015

    Festival of Chocolate 2015

After being on hiatus last year, the Festival of Chocolate returned to South Florida!  This event, which is not to be confused with a similar event that takes place at Fairchild Tropical Garden around this time of the year, is a celebration of all things chocolate.  There were plenty of vendors, cooking demonstrations, and fun trivia to be had.  And, as an added bonus, it was held at the Miami Auto Museum.  Lots of cool things to see, once you’d had your fill of chocolate. • Taste of Peru 2014

    Taste of Peru 2014

Taste of Peru, the third in my annual Holy Trinity of Peruvian Gastronomic Festivals, returned yet again.  Last year, I was underwhelmed by the turnout.  This year, the Peruvians in Miami turned out in full force.  Even better, some new vendors made an appearance at the venue.  It was truly a testament to the growing prevalence of Peruvian cuisine in South Florida. • Burgerliscious 2014

    Burgerliscious 2014

Burgerliscious is back for another year of burger mayhem.  Burgerliscious, in which participating Coral Gables restaurants complete to see who makes the best burger, drew a big crowd.  As usual, I had to get in on the action and sample what each restaurant had to offer at Burgerliscious 2014. • Peruvian Independence Day Festival 2014

    Peruvian Independence Day Festival 2014

Yesterday, I went to the Peruvian Independence Day Festival 2014, expecting to gorge myself on lot of delicious Peruvian food.  Unfortunately, the festival had other plans.  I was so underwhelmed that I am not going to bother with a detailed post.

Thank you, though, to Arty Photoworks for the excellent photos!  Sorry again that I talked you into coming to this.

  • Taste of the Caribbean 2014

    Taste of the Caribbean 2014

Don’t tell my Jamaican friends, but I am not particularly fond of Jamaican food (sorry, guys!).  Even when a Jamaican restaurant has been highly recommended, I am not particularly impressed when I go and try it.  But, my experiences with a certain Caribbean restaurant had led me to believe that I just wasn’t giving “Island cuisine” a fair chance.  So, when I stumbled across this deal on LivingSocial for a ticket to Taste of the Caribbean, I kept an open mind and took the dive. • Burger Battle 2014

    Burger Battle 2014

Riverwalk’s Burger Battle returned this year, and the competition at Burger Battle 2014 was fierce!  As usual, 16 Broward County restaurants threw down the gauntlet to see who makes the best burger.  It was a hot, humid evening.  But, that didn’t stop anyone from showing up.  Veteran competitors, defending champions, and newcomers all faced off.  Who delivered, and who crashed and burned?  Let’s find out, shall we? • Burger Beast Burger Brawl 2014

    Burger Beast Burger Brawl 2014

May is National Hamburger Month here in the U.S.  What better way to celebrate than with a burger festival?  This year, renown South Florida food blogger, Burger Beast, decided to organize the first ever Burger Brawl.  For Burger Brawl 2014, he invited 20 restaurants from all over South Florida to showcase their burger-making craft, and let the public vote for a winner.

If you’re been following this blog for a while, then you should know that I am no stranger to burger competitions.  However, this is the first time that such an event was put together with restaurants that were hand-picked by a reputable and influential blogger.

  • Miami Fine Beverage, Chocolate, and Food Show 2014

Miami Fine Beverage, Chocolate, and Food Show 2014

Everyone knows that I don’t generally turn down a food festival when there is chocolate involved.  So, March 9th found me wandering around Pinecrest Gardens and sampling all sorts of delectable bites.  Compared to last year’s event, this was one considerably smaller.  It was a bit of a letdown, but it was still a beautiful day to be out trying new things!
