  • Bourbon Steak (A Review)

    Bourbon Steak (A Review)

Well, here we are, Miami Spicing it up again.  This time, our target was Bourbon Steak in Aventura.  Bourbon Steak has been on my radar for a while, but the funding was just never there to go try it out.  This is precisely the reason why I made it my mission to come here during Miami Spice. • Town Kitchen and Bar (A Review)

Town Kitchen and Bar (A Review)

Here at The Broke Baker, we are all about trying new things on a budget.  So, when Amazon Local came out with a deal for a place called Town Kitchen and Bar in South Miami, I jumped on it.  I had never actually heard of this place, but that’s not exactly uncommon.  Restaurants come and go around here, and Miami isn’t exactly a small town. • Bulla Gastrobar (A Review)

    Bulla Gastrobar (A Review)

Tapas, it seems, are all the rage nowadays.  With Miami Spice still in effect, it was a chance for my to try out some tapas for myself.  Bulla (pronounced Boo-ya) Gastrobar is a restaurant in Coral Gables that was inspired by popular tapas restaurants in Spain, and was offering a 3 course Miami Spice lunch for $19 per person.  It features high-top tables and bar chairs, so it’s not exactly the type of place you’d want to take a disabled or elderly person that can’t climb into one of these seats.  But, if you’re young and limber, you’re good to go! • El Malecon (A Review)

    El Malecon (A Review)

Usually, I subscribe to the doctrine that, if you have nothing nice to say, you say nothing at all.  As such, I rarely review a restaurant if my experience was not particularly good.  And, when dealing with hole-in-the-wall Mom and Pop places, you should never set your expectations very high.  That being said, I still feel like I should write this review, if only to prepare anyone else that may want to try this place out. • Biscayne Tavern (A Review)

    Biscayne Tavern (A Review)

Miami Spice once again brought me out of my cave and into the world of fine dining.  Biscayne Tavern is a swanky little restaurant and bar located inside the B2 Miami Downtown.  The sign located on the outside of the restaurant makes it easy to spot, and there is quite a bit of metered parking across the way.  They have been generating a lot of buzz with the large variety and quality of the food on their Miami Spice menu.  With that in mind, I brought some friends along. • Dr. Limon (A Review)

    Dr. Limon (A Review)

Ah, Labor Day!  While the rest of Miami was grilling or fighting for parking spots on the beach, I decided that it was a great day for Peruvian food.  More specifically, it was a great opportunity to try out Dr. Limon, which opened recently in Kendall.  Word on the street is that the owner used to work at Cvi.che 105 in Downtown Miami, which is another popular spot for higher end Peruvian food in the area.  With sparse decor in the dining area and quirky names like “Remedio Casero” (Home Remedy) and Psiquiatra (Psychiatrist) for their signature ceviches, Dr. Limon has recently made a name for itself in the Kendall area. • Devon Seafood and Steak (A Review)

Devon Seafood and Steak (A Review)

Once again, Miami Spice brought me out of my cave and into the world of fine dining.  Devon Seafood + Steak is essentially the only fine dining restaurant in its area of Kendall, and has been causing quite a stir.  The restaurant itself isn’t very noticeable (there is not even a sign on the front!) from its alcove in The Palms at Town and Country.  Their dinner Miami Spice menu consists of $39 and $49 per person combinations, which is a little bit different from other restaurants. • Ortanique on the Mile (A Review)

Ortanique on the Mile (A Review)

Ortanique on the Mile is a Caribbean restaurant located on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables, FL.  I’d heard great things about it before, but I never actually took the time to pay much attention.  I have had cuisine from the islands (Jamaican, Haitian, etc.) before, and was never particularly impressed.  That being said, curiosity finally got the better of me, and I was able to take advantage of their Miami Spice menu to check them out.  The cool thing about their Miami Spice menu is that it changes every day.  So, you have a chance to try different things on the menu. • Randazzo’s Little Italy (A Review)

    Randazzo’s Little Italy (A Review)

So, Miami Spice is back!  That means there are two months of discounted meals at fancy places headed my way.  This year, the first stop was Randazzo’s Little Italy in Coral Gables.  This restaurant serves Southern Italian cuisine, which encompasses the rich tomato sauce and olive oil rich cuisine that most of us associate with Italian food.  Co-owned by litigation attorney Jim Ferraro and retired boxer Marc Randazzo, this small restaurant sports the red-and-white checkered tablecloths that bring to mind a neighborhood Italian diner, without losing the Coral Gables swagger.  They are offering a three-course lunch for $23 until the end of September. • Toro Toro’s Bottomless Brunch Tapas (A Review)

Toro Toro’s Bottomless Brunch Tapas (A Review)

Toro Toro, located in the lobby of the Intercontinental Hotel in Downtown Miami, refers to itself as a Pan Latin Steakhouse.  On Saturdays and Sundays, however, they offer a tapas brunch.  For $35, you get all of the tapas you can handle in the space of 2 hours, plus brunch cocktails (mimosa and Bloody Mary).  Tapas, for those that don’t know, are a variety of appetizers and snacks in Spanish cuisine.  Tapas are typically small and meant to be ordered in quantities to share, rather than being an actual entree.  So, you get a couple of small plates brought to your table to share among everyone.
