  • Michy’s All-You-Can-Eat Fried Chicken (A Review)

    Michy’s All-You-Can-Eat Fried Chicken (A Review)

Not long ago, I asked around as to where to get the best fried chicken in South Florida.  Aside from the standard chains (Popeye’s, Church’s), my friends didn’t have a whole lot of insight.  So, I turned to the Internet.  This is how I first heard of Michy’s fried chicken.  Michy’s, an upscale restaurant located in the North Miami area, offers a bottomless fried chicken dinner for $39 per person on Wednesday nights during the summer months.  Many locals seemed to swear undying allegiance to their fried chicken, so I figured it HAS to be good.  Fortunately for me, I found out about them during the summer, which meant that it was the perfect opportunity to give them a shot. • Angelique Euro Cafe (A Review)

    Angelique Euro Cafe (A Review)

Coral Gables Restaurant Week brought me to Angelique Euro Cafe for their three course lunch.  When I arrived, I was somewhat disappointed to discover that we would be seated outside, as there was a baby shower taking up the interior of the restaurant.  I was told that this happens quite often.  I guess this place is popular for large parties. • Talavera Cocina Mexicana (A Review)

    Talavera Cocina Mexicana (A Review)

Despite the name, Coral Gables Restaurant Week was a 3 week long affair.  During this time, restaurants located in Coral Gables offered discounted 3-course meals.  This basically translates to “go out and eat at places that you would normally be unable to afford.”  And, that is exactly what I did. • Macaron by Patisse

    Macaron by Patisse

Ah, the French macaron.  Having a general aversion to eggs, I ignored these meringue-based cookies for quite some time.  Then, a few years ago, I came across a French bakery at a chocolate festival that was giving out samples.  I tried their coffee macaron, and my life was never the same again.  I have tried recreating them at home, with little success.  Now, I just grit my teeth and shell out the exorbitant price of each cookie. • Benny’s Seafood (A Review)

    Benny’s Seafood (A Review)

It has probably been at least 2 years since I saw the episode of Food Network’s “The Best Thing I Ever Ate” in which Guy Fieri gushes about the mofongo at Benny’s Seafood in Miami, FL and decided that I MUST try it out.  Yes, it took me a while.  If it wasn’t because I was broke (refer to blog name, HA!), it was because I didn’t have the time.  If I had the time, I had no one to come with me.  Because, who wants to venture into the unknown alone!?  This would be my first time having Puerto Rican food, and I wanted some moral support! Mercadito Midtown (A Review)

Happy Cinco de Mayo!  Yes, the holiday where all Americans are Mexican, and all Mexicans want nothing to do with Americans.  Plus, a great excuse to have some Mexican food!  Technically, I was a week early, but I only got around to writing this now. (more…)

  • Latin House Grill (A review)

    Latin House Grill (A review)

For several months, I have been urged by several coworkers to try out Latin House Grill, which is located in South Miami.  A restaurant that specializes in burgers and tacos didn’t really catch my attention.  After all, they are 2 very different styles of cuisine, so how can you master both?  To me, it conjured up thoughts of the many Chinese restaurants in the area that sell fried plantains.  Yet, despite my apprehension, I took the plunge, and dragged a friend with me. • Flip Burger Bar (A Review)

    Flip Burger Bar (A Review)

In case it wasn’t already obvious, I LOVE burgers.  Well, I love food in general, but burgers are one of several food items that I absolutely could never do without.  So, when a friend pointed out that USA Today named a local burger joint one of the Top 25 Burgers in the country, I jumped at the chance to try a new burger place. Pollos y Jarras (A Review)

If you’ve never had Peruvian food, then you are missing out.

I had heard of Ceviche 105 from when they participated in Miami Spice last year, but never got around to making it over there.  A recent glance at their web site showed that the owner had opened a Peruvian roast chicken restaurant next door called Pollos y Jarras.  And, since I was going to be Downtown anyway, then why not? • Shula Burger (A Review)

    Shula Burger (A Review)

To most South Floridians old enough to remember, Don Shula is a football legend.  To those of us in the slightly younger generation, Don Shula is the name plastered on a chain of high-end steakhouses scattered about South Florida.  It was only a matter of time before the franchise branched out into burgers.  After all, if you know your steaks, then burgers should be a cakewalk.  Thus, Shula Burger was born.
