    White Chocolate Raspberry Mini Cheesecakes

Once upon a time, I was at The Olive Garden with a friend of mine.  For dessert, she ordered their white chocolate raspberry cheesecake.  She loved it so much that she insisted that I learn to make it.  At the time, I was just getting my feet wet in the art of making cheesecakes, so this was a pretty daunting task.  I eventually found a recipe that yielded an excellent result. • Sugar Cream Pie

    Sugar Cream Pie

It would be an absolute lie if I said that I would have ever come across this recipe if I didn’t have a quart of half-and-half sitting in my fridge that I had no idea what to do with.  As it turns out, I’ve been missing out.  The Hoosiers were on to something when they came up with Sugar Cream Pie.  I love creamy, custardy pies.  And, since this pie doesn’t use any eggs, it is good for accommodating egg allergies. • Pandebono

    Pandebono

Pandebono, if you ask me, is one of the best things to come out of Colombia.  It is not uncommon to eat this at breakfast with a cup of coffee or cocoa, but is also eaten during the day as a snack. (more…)

  • Doña Rosa’s Rice Pudding Empanadas

    Doña Rosa’s Rice Pudding Empanadas

Rice pudding, I’ve noticed, comes in many different varieties.  Still, my experiences with rice pudding have always been where it is served in a bowl for you to eat with a spoon.  So, when my aunt mentioned the rice pudding empanadas that my grandmother used to make, it was definitely a surprise.  As it turns out, rice pudding empanadas do exist in parts of South America.  However, most of the recipes that I found used pastry or pie dough for the crust.  My aunt insists that these were made with pandebono dough, which is a Colombian cheese bread.  She offered to share this recipe with me, so shout out and thanks to you for your contribution to my blog! • Mini Chocolate Bundt Cakes

    Mini Chocolate Bundt Cakes

Thanks to a friend of mine, I found out that Bed, Bath, and Beyond was having a clearance sale on some of their bakeware.  One of the baking pans that I managed to score was a mini bundt pan from Wilton.  It was just so cute, and the sizes were perfect for individual servings.  Naturally, it didn’t take me very long to succumb to the urge to try it out. • El Malecon (A Review)

    El Malecon (A Review)

Usually, I subscribe to the doctrine that, if you have nothing nice to say, you say nothing at all.  As such, I rarely review a restaurant if my experience was not particularly good.  And, when dealing with hole-in-the-wall Mom and Pop places, you should never set your expectations very high.  That being said, I still feel like I should write this review, if only to prepare anyone else that may want to try this place out. • Biscayne Tavern (A Review)

    Biscayne Tavern (A Review)

Miami Spice once again brought me out of my cave and into the world of fine dining.  Biscayne Tavern is a swanky little restaurant and bar located inside the B2 Miami Downtown.  The sign located on the outside of the restaurant makes it easy to spot, and there is quite a bit of metered parking across the way.  They have been generating a lot of buzz with the large variety and quality of the food on their Miami Spice menu.  With that in mind, I brought some friends along. • Dr. Limon (A Review)

    Dr. Limon (A Review)

Ah, Labor Day!  While the rest of Miami was grilling or fighting for parking spots on the beach, I decided that it was a great day for Peruvian food.  More specifically, it was a great opportunity to try out Dr. Limon, which opened recently in Kendall.  Word on the street is that the owner used to work at Cvi.che 105 in Downtown Miami, which is another popular spot for higher end Peruvian food in the area.  With sparse decor in the dining area and quirky names like “Remedio Casero” (Home Remedy) and Psiquiatra (Psychiatrist) for their signature ceviches, Dr. Limon has recently made a name for itself in the Kendall area. • Devon Seafood and Steak (A Review)

Devon Seafood and Steak (A Review)

Once again, Miami Spice brought me out of my cave and into the world of fine dining.  Devon Seafood + Steak is essentially the only fine dining restaurant in its area of Kendall, and has been causing quite a stir.  The restaurant itself isn’t very noticeable (there is not even a sign on the front!) from its alcove in The Palms at Town and Country.  Their dinner Miami Spice menu consists of $39 and $49 per person combinations, which is a little bit different from other restaurants. • Ortanique on the Mile (A Review)

Ortanique on the Mile (A Review)

Ortanique on the Mile is a Caribbean restaurant located on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables, FL.  I’d heard great things about it before, but I never actually took the time to pay much attention.  I have had cuisine from the islands (Jamaican, Haitian, etc.) before, and was never particularly impressed.  That being said, curiosity finally got the better of me, and I was able to take advantage of their Miami Spice menu to check them out.  The cool thing about their Miami Spice menu is that it changes every day.  So, you have a chance to try different things on the menu.
